For care at the lowest cost, make sure to choose doctors and specialty care providers in your Plan Medical Group  or network. Your medical group is listed on the front of your Sharp Health Plan member ID.

  • Greater Tri-Cities IPA
  • Primary Care Associates Medical Group
  • Sharp Community Medical Group — Arch

When you’re traveling outside of San Diego, you don’t need prior authorization.

An emergency medical condition is defined as a medical condition with symptoms of sufficient severity, including severe pain, that a prudent layperson could reasonably expect the absence of immediate attention to result in placing the patient’s health in serious jeopardy, serious impairment of bodily functions, or serious dysfunction of any bodily organ or part.

Examples of emergency medical conditions include:

  • heart attack or severe chest pain
  • loss of consciousness
  • difficulty breathing
  • bleeding that does not stop
  • severe abdominal pain
  • stroke, sudden paralysis or slurred speech

Sometimes it is hard to decide if your injury or illness is really an emergency. If you aren’t sure whether it is an emergency, call your primary care physician (PCP). Your PCP will help you decide on the best course of action.

You can also call Sharp Nurse Connection® for after-hours nurse advice telephone service. To contact Nurse Connection, call Customer Care toll-free at (855) 995-5004 and select the appropriate prompt.
